44 ## A Brief History of Pakistan

A nation full of history and culture- Pakistan emerged as a sovereign state on August 14, 1947 after being partitioned from British India. This notable occurrence was led by the All-India Muslim League spearheaded instrumental figure being Muhammad Ali Jinnah- the acknowledged founder of Pakistan.

The idea for Pakistan came about due to the Indians' struggle for independence from British colonial rule which later on diverged into two main groups one led by Gandhi and Nehru who wanted unified India while other lead by Muhammad Ali Jinnah whose demand was creation of separate countries one for Muslims another Hindus. It was guided by a hypothesis that Muslims and Hindus formed large separate national entities with their own specific customs, cultures, religion and traditions, requiring their different states as a mode of preserving own identities.

At first, Pakistan was made up of two areas- West Pakistan (present-day Pakistan) and East Pakistan (present-day Bangladesh). The creation of department led to administrative complexities as well as political stress. In 1971, that tension erupted into a civil war which saw East Pakistan break away from the rest of country, forming the independent state called Bangladesh.

Despite being initially characterized by periods of military rule and political instability, Pakistan's economy has seen remarkable progress as well as a wealth of development within the social sphere. As a current catchphrase, Pakistan still grapples with its historical past and tries to attain stability together with growth in the modern way of life
